HAYMARKET/GAINESVILLE, VA
TRAFFIC ALERT
ACCESS BETWEEN ROUTE 29 SOUTH AND ROUTE 55 TO CLOSE
Permanent closure is part of Gainesville Improvement project
Beginning Thursday, September 23, motorists in Gainesville will no longer be able to turn right from Route 29 South onto Route 55 (John Marshall Highway), or access Route 29 from Route 55. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is permanently closing this access point as part of its Route 29 and Linton Hall Road interchange project.
The schematic shows the work being carried out in this location. Local business on Route 55 can still be accessed via Gallerher Road. The existing traffic light at the intersection of Gallerher Road and Route 55 will be removed from service and a new tie-in to Gallerher Road has been constructed as shown below.
After the traffic switch, the Department will monitor the traffic conditions throughout the day and make the necessary adjustments to the traffic signals to alleviate any significant traffic delays.
To get to Route 55 from Route 29, motorists can use Heathcote Boulevard to Catharpin Road to Route 55, or use Gallerher Road to Route 55.

Each and every component that makes up your life experience is drawn to you by the powerful Law of Attraction’s response to the thoughts you think and the story you tell about your life. Your money and financial assets; your body’s state of wellness, clarity, flexibility, size, and shape; your work environment, how you are treated, work satisfaction, and rewards—indeed, the very happiness of your life experience in general—is all happening because of the story that you tell.
— Abraham

People never ask if I’m “religious.” But they do ask why I’m so “happy” all the time, why I’m so “optimistic” about life, and where do I get my “energy” from. I know it began in October 2006. A friend thought I might enjoy reading a few “new age” books so I bought a few. I absorbed every word as it resonated with me and I felt it explained “life.” But I lived in skeptism at the time so I thought I’d “test” the theories in my own life.
I changed my mental outlook on life slowly, added some simple meditations, found some mantras I enjoyed reading, and kept reading. This stuff is pretty deep. I never really understood the bible or the institution of religion but not because I didn’t try. I attended so many different types of churches growing up, went on bible vacations, and even got “saved” several times.
If someone does ask if I follow a particular religion, I usually say no. But I align more closely with the eastern philosophies of Buddhism and Taoism. The words of Abraham by Ester Hicks are probably my most favorite because there is no reference or inference to any particular religion. It’s about leading a joyful life and living in the moment (Just watch children in a playground- that is living joyful and in the moment). Refreshing.
These quotes are easy for me to understand but if you are new to these thoughts, it can be confusing and flat out strange. I don’t believe in telling you to go read about Abraham. But if you do feel that life is a bit lifeless for you, do some soul searching and step out of the box- do some exploring of your own.
If something resonates with you, aka, FEELS GOOD, then dig deeper. Life is short. Happiness is crucial. Go get happy! I did.
Let’s do a 5K! Oct 31, 2010

I’m so ready to start running and get my legs ON! This is phase 1 of my triathlon training; getting some mileage in at local races. And I would prefer to run with friends for 3.1 miles. Are you in??? Read on!
Here’s my first race on the schedule: The Goblin Gallop.
Check it out! Sunday, Oct 31st, 9am, $20. Fairfax Corner. So many options- you can run 5K, you can walk 5K, and well, get a t-shirt! It’s also USATF certified so for those that are competitive, add this to your points!
What? Did I hear your brain scream:
“I can’t do this!”
“No way I can get ready for this!”
“I hate running!”
“I’m so out of shape!”
Go ahead, admit it. I have said it myself for the past 15 years! 15 years!
Here’s my story. What is yours?
See, in 1995, I trained for the BIG ONE, the MMC, Marine Corp Marathon. I was running with a group on the weekends along the Potomac. 9 minute miles and I was SLOW (um, NOT!). I got to the weekend of the 9 mile run and something terrible happened. I collapsed. I couldn’t walk. Seems I really messed up my foot– stress fracture of some useless bones under the ball of my foot. I was in a cast for 6 weeks. I stopped running. Fast forward 17 years and I found myself in surgery on the same foot because I was not able to walk without severe pain. OA (osteoarthritis) had set in and I was told that I had no cartilage left in my big toe joint, I would have daily pain rest of my life, and here are the 3 types of prescriptions I could take to ease my discomfort. I refused the drugs and have lived in pain since. But, I started cycling and roller blading instead– you know, non impact stuff. I still have daily foot pain…
But, get this. I realized the less I moved, the more it hurt. The more I move, the better my joint is. So I didn’t just decide to run; I decided to compete in triathlons. And tri’s requiring running in 5k and 10Ks. If the pain is going to be there whether I run or not, I might as well run. I have stock in Advil anyway.
I ran today. It wasn’t hard at all; but because I learned two very valuable lessons from 2 books I read this summer.
Book #1, Younger Next Year , taught me this: Your body is either in growth mode or decay mode. After the age of 30, your body is decaying… unless you exercise. So you get to decide if you are going to be immobile in your 80s or skiing down mountains. You decide. I decided I’d rather be skiing. (they also wrote a “female” version of the book if you can believe there is such a thing! Click here if you really prefer that one).
Book #2, Complete Book of Women’s Running, taught me this: Don’t over train, set your own pace, your own goals and stop competing with others. I’m only on Chapter 2. But the light bulb went off about my disaster 15 years ago- I over-trained because I was in a group setting … and my competitive drive got the best of me. So now I’m on an actual training schedule, for me. And, I got some fantastic running shoes because who knew I was a moderate pronator?!
I’m just saying…. ![]()
If you are interested, Sign up to participate in October and we can run/walk together!
Or at least come cheer me on and get some free food at the event while you are at it!
New Road Ride… near my home

Trying to get some short quick trips in around my home instead of driving 30 miles to the W&OD Trail for some ride. This is between 10- 11 miles. Boring, but it is exercise and will help me get into shape for my Vail Pass experience in July!

I pick this book up and read snipets when I have some time… and this quote blew me away. Describes me quite well in the work environment… and boy, does that scare some people. But that is okay, it’s who I am… years ago at my first job, a boss said to me, “Jennifer, stop asking so many questions at work. Can’t you just sit there and do what you are told?” In 2007, a manager told me to stop speaking up at meetings and raising good questions because that is not what a team player does. I quit my job that day. It was refreshing and scary at the same time. But you know, it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life and I have no regrets!
You cannot be afraid to be who you are. Live your values. Live your life. A woman confided to me about “sneaking out of the office” to go to her child’s play and I said, “Stop right there! I have never snuck out of any place. I walk right down the center hall, and if somebody doesn’t like it, too bad. Don’t worry about me. I will deliver.” Just stand up, do what you need to do, and smile about it. Look them in the eye and say, “If you don’t like it, fire me, and I’ll go find another job, because I’m talented enough and I’m committed enough.” ~ Shelly Lazarus, Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather.

Calmness in our Lives..

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Oprah show, you too can find inner peace.
Dr. Oz proclaimed, ‘The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.’
So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn’t finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Tequila, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.
Pass this on if you know anyone you think might be in need of inner peace.
